The US economic slowdown has just started to affect world economies. In my opinion, and the opinion of quite a few economists, the rest of the world is the beginning of longer economic cooling while the US is closer to the end of one (although the end is not that near).
What this means for the GBP – the GBP has already fallen more than 10% against the USD since July 08. Why has this happened? Quite simply, the US is world’s biggest consumer and when US spending slows eventually the rest of the world’s exports slow.
