Is it possible to withdraw money from a UK bank account in China without using an ATM?

I need to withdraw £2,000 from a UK bank account in China, however the ATM machines here limit the amount you can withdraw in one day to £400 and charge you for each withdrawl. Therefore I want to know if it is possible to go into a bank and withdraw the money all in one go using my Visa Electron card. I have looked into Western Union transfers and travellers cheques, none of which are an option. So would it be possible to go into a branch eg. Bank of China and withdraw the money all in one go?

Probably not. Most likely you will be limited to withdrawing 2000 american dollars a day. Also, you will need a Chinese person ( Native, currently residing in China to go with you to handle the transaction ) It not a big deal and does not take long. If you are staying in a hotel, one of the employees might go with you if you asked.

It might pay to go to Hong Kong and do it there,as they have most UK banks there, then transfer you money into a Bank of China main bank near to you.
