It can take 7 to 10 years for credit blemishes to be wiped out. You will probably have to get a secured credit card or high risk credit card, take out a small secured loan, or something of that nature to begin rebuilding your credit history.

Actually if the credit card company wants to sell off your acct to a broker, then another ding goes on your record with another acct number and even larger amount owed and it goes through this vicious cycle of brokers. Which year after year will continue to haunt you.

If you owe the $, then work out a settlement. In the meantime securing a secured credit card would offset the negative. Also be sure to pay your rent/morgage, utilities, and other bills on time or ahead of due dates. This will also help you.
