Depends on if you want to be certified. In order to be a CPA, you need a minimum of a 4 year degree with lots of accounting and auditing courses. The requirements are different for each state, so you have to go to aicpa.org to determine your state’s requirements.
You don’t have to be a CPA to be an accountant. I have my undergraduate degree in accounting, my MBA, and a CMA. I work on organizational accounting (process improvements).

It depends on how far you want to go in the field. You can go to a community college and learn the basics and get an AA degree. This will allow you to get your foot in the door. You will be able to do some tax work and work in an accounting department or become a book keeper for a smaller company. You will need a four year degree it you want a higher position in a company – treasurer or controller. If you want to sit for the CPA exam you will have to have a four year degree.
Best of luck.
