Being self-employed doesn’t have anything to do with itemizing. If you are self employed you deduct business expenses on your schedule C, but that doesn’t require itemizing (schedule A on your personal side of your return) unless you have enough personal itemized deductions to do so

There are free tax preparation programs available online. (You have to suffer through a good amount of promotions asking you to upgrade to a package that you pay for, but it’s less headache that figuring out your own taxes.)
I’ve used this one ever since my family began itemizing.

If you have kept up with your business records, you should be able to get through the questionaires. If your business records are incomplete, an accountant would charge you a pretty penny to get it in order anyway.
