If it’s an option, the cheapest way is to withdraw money from your English bank, change it at a Bureau de Change and deposit it in your French bank.
Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is to change to a bank that doesn’t charge as much.
Unless Western Union or someone like it will do it for less.

Bank transfer is the safest, after all, its a small amount really to protect your money….Something strikes me a bit odd about questions like this, people must be thinking of transferring a considerable amount,. for say a house purchase or rent, then quibble about £30 odd quid to transfer the funds??? Whats the cost compared to the risk of cashing a cheque or withdrawing all your money and then getting mugged, you won’t have it protected or insured, how small is the charge as a percentage of the total amount of money you want to move, just think about it!
